Online Therapy
We are living in a digital world more than ever before. Teens today are having countless experiences connecting with people online from social media, messaging apps, video gaming to school remote learning. Teens are confident in their know-hows when it comes to technology, because of this, teens are more open to getting mental health support and feel more comfortable talking with a therapist online than in-person at an office setting. In fact, studies have found that online therapy can be quite beneficial and a convenient option for teens who need mental health care.
Given the circumstances of the growing COVID-19 crisis and social distancing, the need for mental health services accessed by online therapy has significantly increased. Online therapy provides the opportunity to see a therapist from the comfort and safety of home.
I offer online therapy via an easy to use, HIPAA secure video platform so we can see each other in a virtual face-to-face setting. You can access the video platform on a computer with a webcam, tablet or smartphone with WiFi access. It is recommended to create privacy in a confidential space free of interruptions and being overheard by others during therapy sessions. You don’t need to open an account to access the video platform. Just click the secure link I email you at the time of your scheduled appointment and you’re in.
Individual Therapy
In my therapy sessions, teens can begin to identify, understand and address issues at hand, while learning coping skills to help work through current struggles and improve positive thinking and behavior.
Issues that may be addressed in individual therapy:
~Life/home transitions (moves, divorce) ~Stress ~Anxiety ~Depression ~Anger ~Mood ~Family Conflict ~Communication ~Oppositional attitude ~Acting Out Behavior ~Decision Making ~School problems ~Self-esteem ~Self-image ~Loss/Grief ~Trauma ~Domestic/intimate partner violence ~Sexual Abuse
Feedback to parents/caregivers:
Trust is one of the most essential aspects of the therapeutic relationship. The individual therapy session is a “safe harbor”, a confidential place where teens can talk freely about anything. It is important to me to maintain a balance between protecting their sense of privacy and informing parents when important issues arise during treatment. Parents and caregivers will always be promptly informed when matters of safety are concerned. Regular feedback and updates will be provided on how your teen is doing in therapy. I’m here for you as well. As needed, I can meet with you separately for parenting support.
Trauma Therapy
I specialize in treating teens who have experienced sexual abuse. Sexual abuse, in any form, is a traumatic experience that can have various effects, impacting almost every aspect of a victim’s life while also having rippling effects upon an entire family. With help, support and guidance from trauma therapy, victims and their families impacted by sexual abuse can heal.
Trauma therapy aims to:
~Encourage teens to share and process traumatic experiences ~Make connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors ~Develop and practice relaxation skills ~Decrease traumatic stress ~Identify means of coping with a range of emotions ~Build safety skills ~Promote positive adjustment and supports ~Help parents and caregivers develop skills to support their child’s emotional and behavioral adjustment.
An individualized plan for treatment will be developed on the basis of the teen’s presenting symptoms, behavior, needs, personality and therapy goals.
Parents and caregivers can play a critical role in the healing process. Family sessions will be provided alongside individual sessions. Therapy affords a safe space where the family can deal with the shock of disclosure to coping with the emotional impact and its’ aftermath.
